A 1/2 DAY-TRIP

Feel like a float trip but don't have a lot of time to travel, and you want to avoid the crowds? At Bonne Terre, just off Hwy 67, you'll find a gem of a float offered by Cherokee Landing, a canoe, kayak, and raft outfitter owned and operated for 15 years by Steven and Christine Bruner.

The floats are operated on the Big River near St. Francois State Park. They are all class I floats excellent for beginners and people with children.

The floats are operated on the Big River near St. Francois State Park. They are all class I floats excellent for beginners and people with children. It's slow-moving through some of the prettiest bluff-lined terrains in the area. And there's little to no threat of overturning or other dangers.

This 573 Magazine Story is proudly brought to you by Fisher Furniture in Ironton, Missouri.

The water is shallow, clean, and clear. The float meanders past gravel and sand bars, farmland, bluffs, and through the St. Francois State Park. Gliding under the U.S. 67 overpass, the float ends at Cherokee Landing, allowing the paddler to set their own pace and hop right into their car at the end of the trip.

Cherokee Landing offers two, four, and seven-hour floats and, for the adventurous, a two-day float. They also have a small campground, a two-family cabin, a campground store, and a stocked pond for fishing. There are tubes for rent, kayaking, and four & six-person rafts.

All in all, it's a great 1/2 day out. So GET OUT THERE!
