Taste of 573 - Healthy Smoothies

573 Magazine - As winter winds down and spring approaches, we're all starting to think about those summer vacations and float trips. With that comes SWIMSUIT SEASON. If you're like me, you've put on a few pounds over the winter, and an excellent way to help shed those pounds is with one of my healthy protein-packed smoothies.

I'm Casey Reeves. I'm a Farmington native, proud father, musician, outdoor enthusiast, and I LOVE TO COOK! Cooking has been a passion and hobby of mine since I was a kid...I'd often narrate my cooking and recipes, pretending that I was a cooking show host. Now, thanks to 573 Magazine, I get to share some of my favorite recipes with you! So welcome to the Taste of 573.

My protein-packed smoothies are great for a meal replacement or pre- and post-workout snacks. They’re packed with vitamins and fiber from the fruit, protein from the protein powder, and yogurt, and peanut butter.

If you're like me, you've put on a few pounds over the winter, and an excellent way to help shed those pounds is with one of my healthy protein-packed smoothies. My protein-packed smoothies are great for a meal replacement or pre- and post-workout snacks. They’re packed with vitamins and fiber from the fruit, protein from the protein powder, and yogurt, and peanut butter. They’re a great source of hydration, too, due to the coconut water. Today I'm going to share four of my favorite smoothie recipes: Vanilla Strawberry Mango, Vanilla Mixed Berry, Banana Mocha, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana. These are very simple recipes that anyone can throw together, so keep that in mind. Don't be afraid to sub out ingredients and create your own.

The Vanilla Strawberry Mango Smoothie is my go-to and probably my favorite. You'll need: 1 1/2 cups coconut water, 1 scoop (or 2 tablespoons) of your favorite vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cups frozen banana, 1/2 cups frozen mango, and 1/2 cups frozen strawberries. Combine all of your ingredients in your blender, blend until smooth, and enjoy this tasty, healthy snack. FYI...If you're not a fan of coconut water, you could also use almond milk or a low sugar juice.

The Vanilla Mixed Berry Smoothie is a light, healthy treat, and is the lowest carb smoothie due to the low sugar content of berries. You'll need: 1 1/2 cups coconut water, 1 scoop (or 2 tablespoons) of your favorite vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cup frozen banana, and 1 cup frozen mixed berries. Combine, blend, and enjoy! If you'd like some additional creaminess and protein, add a tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt.

The Banana Mocha Smoothie is great for early morning workouts or those afternoons when you're really dragging. You'll need: 1 1/2 cups cold or room temp coffee, 1 1/2 cups frozen banana, 1 scoop (or 2 tablespoons) of your favorite chocolate protein, and 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt. Combine, blend, and enjoy this caffeine and protein packed smoothie!

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Smoothie is a decadent treat for when you need something sweet but trying to be good.
